The problem with the gamers today. My nephew was over this weekend, and like a true trooper he wanted to play with his kickass Aunt BriBri. Now, since I don't have more than one game for the PS3 ( Mirror's Edge ) which gives him motion sickness because it's a FBR ( First Person Runner ) like a good Aunt, I drug out the more memorable games of days gone by from the PS1. The game of voice? Tekken 3.

A little bit into the game, I start to remember my better moves with Ling Xiouyu and Hwoarang. ( Favorite move? Door Mat. )
A little bit into starting to remember my better moves I begin to hear "Wait a sec!", "Don't Hit me!" or, "Let me try this move!" ( Btw, the most annoying thing in that game was that your opponent could open up his Moves List right in the middle of a fight, just to be a dick. )
A little bit into hearing all of these...horrid things, I begin to realize that I'm just standing there, guarding.
A little bit into realizing that I'm just standing and guarding, I start to throw a kick, a punch, or a grab here and there. " Stop it! Let me win! You're doing the same move! You're only using your legs!" ( Which let me tell you, while playing Hwoarang I told him "that's what my guy is good at so that's what I'm doing? )

1. They don't appreciate the old days. ( they just weren't there )
2. They don't understand the complex workings of a "combo"
3. They are too easily distracted or get bored very quickly.
4. They can't stand losing. ( it's all part of being a Gamer, darling. )
5. They console hop like mad. See example 3. ( Not truly valid, but it's annoying)
6. They skip over the Story Line! ( Damn you Skip Function! )
7. They blame it on the controller...( Self explanatory )

I was reduced from someone who could teach him the finer points of gaming, such as combos, to a punching bag with a pulse who would tell him what a solid arrow meant as apposed to a clear one.

No, this cannot be you say! These are not your genes! This is somone you have never met before, someone who isn't a part of your family tree! You scream in your head, over and over again, give the child a chance but there is only so much you can take! This being from another world doesn't belong to your roots, a Combo Master to be dealt with, a Pionier of around the bottom, forward forward/hold A, B, A! This can't be happening!

But then you wake up...realize that you're playing Crash Bandicoot, Earth Worm Jim, or Jak n Daxter, sigh, and start all over again... because as a Gamer...You never give up until you reach the next Check Point...
